The Story
Entertainment was never just a job.
Long before DJ Outlet was working corporate events, brand activations and major entertainment weekends, Dave Joynes was already drawn to the microphone, the music and the energy that happens when people share an experience together.
Growing up in Baltimore, some of his earliest experiences in media happened inside radio stations. As a child, he participated in a youth storytelling program at WEAA 88.9 FM at Morgan State University, recording stories and then hearing his own voice come through the radio.
A few years later, that interest in broadcasting led him to enter a WBAL junior broadcaster contest, where young participants recorded simulated baseball play-by-play. Dave received an honorable mention, another early sign that communicating to an audience felt natural long before it became a career.
The microphone came first.
That early connection to broadcasting eventually grew into professional work across radio, voiceover, media and entertainment. Dave became involved in programming and operating media platforms while developing the communication skills that would later become central to DJ Outlet.
Through 2HotRadio and 2HotMedia, he gained experience not only on the entertainment side of the business, but behind it — programming, marketing, promotions, artist relationships, audience development and the business decisions required to turn ideas into real-world experiences.
From playing music to running the experience.
DJing became another extension of the same instinct: understand the audience, understand the moment and know how to move a room.
Over more than two decades, DJ Outlet has worked across private events, corporate environments, community experiences, festivals, promotional events, branded activations and live entertainment.
As the years went on, the role became bigger than simply selecting records. Hosting, speaking on the microphone, working with event teams, representing brands and helping an entire room move from one moment to the next became just as important as the music.
Entertainment opened the country.
The work has taken DJ Outlet well beyond one city. Over the course of his career, entertainment and media have created opportunities to travel throughout the United States and work around some of the biggest weekends and environments in entertainment.
His experience includes events surrounding BET Weekend, NBA All-Star Weekend, Grammy Weekend, Dreamville Weekend, Lollapalooza-related artist events and experiences surrounding Beyoncé's Renaissance Tour, along with corporate, community and branded events across the country.
Those environments reinforced something important: every room is different, but the responsibility is the same. Understand where you are, understand who is in front of you and deliver at the level the moment requires.
The person who hires the entertainment has a lot riding on it.
Years spent on both the entertainment and business sides of events shaped the way DJ Outlet approaches corporate work today.
A company event is not simply another party. Someone chose the venue. Someone approved the budget. Someone recommended the vendors. Someone's name is attached to whether the experience works.
That's why professionalism, communication, preparation and awareness matter just as much as knowing what to play. The goal isn't to make DJ Outlet the center of attention. The goal is to make the room work — and make the person responsible for the event feel good about who they trusted with it.
